The UK Pinball Open – 19th – 21st July

The Venue: FlipOut London

UPDATED: This story has been updated since receiving information from tournament director Neil McRae.

The U.K. Pinball Open brings together 80 players in a tournament spanning a total of three days, culminating in a head to head knockout for the title of U.K. Pinball Open Champion (or at least that was I am calling them, there may well be another title..). Hosted at FlipOut Pinball Club in Croydon, London, it promises to be an amazing event.

Ran by Tournament Director Neil McRae, his affinity towards U.S. hosted events such as Pinburgh and NYC Pinball Championships, I am guessing you can expect that he will be bringing in a lot of ideas from tournaments he has attended and will be setting the games up accordingly.

Qualifying will be split over a total of four groups, with twenty in each group (that equals 80 which is good, because that was the number set-out at the beginning!) lasting a total of 3.5 hours per session. The groups are as follows:

  • Friday 19th July 2019 – Start Time 19:00
  • Saturday 20th July 2019 – Start Time 10:00 (My Group)
  • Saturday 20th July 2019 – Start Time 14:00
  • Saturday 20th July 2019 – Start Time 18:00

The Sunday night event is planned to run until 20:30 with some serious pinball being played up until then, the people going this deep into the competition will be good players, but don’t let that worry you, there’s a lot of value to be had by attending. Your £20 entry will get you access to FlipOut Pinball Club London for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as entry to the tournament. There are of course prizes to be won, with the following prize money available for winners, based on a full tournament of:

  • 1st = £300
  • 2nd = £150
  • 3rd = £75
  • 4th = £50
  • 5th – 8th = £20

Spaces are limited, with just 12 spaces remaining (although in saying that, this might be slightly out-dated, I purchased mine yesterday and isn’t yet updated) – you can book your space here.

My View

Whilst this is a serious competition for the U.K. and competitive players, and SOME people will be taking it seriously to mirror that, if you want to turn up, hang out with some great pinball people too, try a competition, that’s okay. For £20 and all you can play free play for the pinball machines not in the tournament, that’s a great price. I will hopefully be donning a The UK Pinball Club T-Shirt, so come and say Hello and let’s have a game of pinball.
